Blog Post 1

Hey there, lovely readers!

I'm Britta, and I'm thrilled to share a bit about myself with you today.

First and foremost, I'm an elementary education major. Teaching is my calling, and I'm excited for what the future holds. I also work as a paraprofessional at a school here in Panama city. Being there for students, providing support, and witnessing their growth has only proven to me that this is what I am meant to do!

Now, onto the heart of my life—my family. My husband and I have been together for a whole twelve years, and we're the proud parents of four amazing kids. Our journey has been filled with love, laughter, and a fair share of challenges, but I wouldn't change a thing. Family is everything to me, and I'm grateful for every moment we share.

In those rare moments of downtime, I have a couple of hobbies that keep me sane. First up, reading. There's nothing quite like getting lost in the pages of a good book. It's my escape, my adventure, and my way of expanding my horizons from the comfort of my home. On the crafty side of things, I'm a crocheter. There's a certain magic in turning a ball of yarn into something beautiful and functional.

To answer the next question, I will be honest here, I do not have much experience with technology in the educational setting. I have helped students log onto computers and get on the apps they need to be on. On the occasions that I sub for a teacher, I have used the smartboards with the apps needed for class. But, my knowledge is very basic. I am hoping to learn a lot more in this course.

As I have just recently learned the term PLN, I have not really put much thought into it before. But I see that I have been sort of creating one without realizing that is what is was. I have some great relationships with my colleagues, that I have learned tremendously from since working at the school. Team meetings and discussions provide me with insights into the unique learning needs of the students and strategies for effective classroom support. Since making the decision to come back to finish my degree, I have started following a couple of educational blogs, to stay current with what is going on in the field. Additionally, I follow a bunch of teachers on Tic Tok, who share the same passion for helping students succeed.

Stay tuned for more, and feel free to share your own stories and experiences. Let's connect and grow together!

Always, Britta.

  1. Hi Britta! I love your passion for teaching and your family! As a substitute here and there myself I can admire your work as a para as well. I will also admit my knowledge on educational technology is limited so hopefully we can both grow and learn throughout this course together. I hope all works out within your teaching journey!
